Now, he’s the latest inductee into the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame and its first steel guitarist. Tinnell – who was honored with a ceremony at the Beacon Theatre in Hopewell Aug. 17 – is a regular performer with the Barn Burners and plays steel guitar with the band five times a year. “I couldn’t believe it. CHESTERFIELD — Three senior citizens were recently inducted into Chesterfield’s Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame for contributions they have made to the community since age 60. Gretchen Craig, Frank Linkous and Robert Pratt were recognized at the Board of Supervisors June 27 meeting. Craig has been volunteering at J.G. Hening Elementary School since 2014. Her volunteerism at the school began by assisting students in second grade in reading and math, as well as helping kindergarten students adjust to their new surroundings. Enon Baptist Church has had a rich history and has always been a big part of the Enon community. Enon Baptist Church celebrated their anniversary on Oct. 8. John Alexander Strachan started holding worship and prayer services in his home at Point of Rocks in 1845. He and his friend from Mount Blanco, William Francis Gill, decided to build a Baptist church for the little community of Enon. Strachan donated some of his farmland and Gill donated lumber from his sawmill. They started out in 1845 with twenty-two members. Enon Baptist has endured many hardships in those 168 years. During…

The Chesterfield County Black History Month Celebration Program announced the recipients of its Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships at their business and Scholarship Awards Breakfast Friday, Feb. 17. Scholarship recipients attended, along with their parents or guardians, to receive the recognition and certificates of achievement. Six scholarships were awarded each in the amount of $2,500. Winners were selected from each of the five Chesterfield County magisterial districts, and one scholarship was awarded to a Chesterfield County student from the Maggie L. Walker Governor School. Each year we search for ideas, scraping the inside of our giving hearts for what type of sweater to purchase for Johnny and what size skinny jeans Jenny wears. Some of us spend doing things like inviting someone less fortunate into our home for a Christmas meal. The local wreath-laying ceremony honoring deceased veterans, part of the Annual Wreath Across America Day program, was held Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park. The cold, gray, and rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of over 100 volunteers who arrived to attend the eremony and assist in the wreath laying. Coach Paul Amos…

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, (CHSV), in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation, presents an American Heritage merit badge workshop for Boy Scouts in December. The Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge Workshop will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at Historic Trinity Church, 10111 Iron Bridge Rd., Chesterfield 23832.
