The ingredients now combining for the dish that is the county’s budget for fiscal year 2018 come from input from the budget staff, the county administrator, the superintendent of schools, and everyday peiople in communities. CodeRVA, a new regional public high school, is scheduled to open for the 2017-2018 school year. The new school is located at 1405 Cummings Drive in Richmond, within five minutes of the Maggie Walker Governor’s School, and has a seven-year lease in a building owned by Michael & Son Services. T here are weather events that increase the probability of a fire starting and rapidly getting out of control. A week or so ago, we had one of those events. A strong wind came through at night, and three working incidents took place during that time. A house, a detached garage, a large out building, and a few acres of woodlands, in three different locations in the county, caused the evacuation of some and firefighters to be busy through the night. Bird got its revenge, Friday defeating Varina 61-58, on a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Mario Haskett to become the Conference 12 boys’ champions. The Skyhawks controlled the lead most of the game with a fast-paced second quarter and aggressive defense. Despite this, the Blue Devils were able to stay in the game down to the final seconds. By Zach Long Thomas Dale Track: In his three years coaching track and field at Thomas Dale, Coach Jay Price said that he had more athletes qualify for the 6A South Regional than ever before. His team competed at the regional meet in Hampton over the weekend and did not disappoint. A.J. Lazaro broke the school record in the 55 meter hurdles, running 7.55 seconds and took fourth place in the event. Lazaro also finished fourth in the triple jump.
