Around the corner

We never know what lies around the next corner. I remember being on duty in the fire station, several years ago and getting dispatched to I-95. It was the epitome of mayhem. A tractor trailer driver was in the lane, closest to the median, minding his own business. As he rounded the curve, he saw a vehicle wreak ahead. He could have barreled through and hurt or killed many people. Instead, he swerved to miss them, causing his truck and trailer to jackknife. His truck would bust through the concrete median, causing his truck to catch fire. The burns that this…

Two L.C. Bird athletes announced where they’d be going this coming fall after finishing their academic and athletic careers as Skyhawks. Walter Samayoa, center back on the soccer field, will be attending and playing at Ferrum University, while baseball’s Miles Burton, a catcher, will be headed to UVa-Wise. Samayoa was a big part of the L.C. Bird’s success as they made regionals last season. For his senior season, he opted to go to academy, playing for the Chesterfield Strikers. During the 2016-2017 season, he scored one goal as a free kick while dishing out five assists and posting four shutouts…

Skyhawks, Warriors from the hardwood make college commitments

Delaware State’s backcourt received a huge boost earlier this week as guard Johquin Wiley decided to commit. The L.C. Bird guard averaged 10.5 points and 6.8 assist last season, as he led the Skyhawks to a state championship. His strong play over his high school career earned him offers from schools like Campbell, James Madison, Longwood, and Norfolk State, but ultimately it was Delaware State that got the VHSL 5A State Player of the Year. Because of his basketball IQ and unselfishness, many people, including his coach, believe his game will translate well at the collegiate level. “Pinky’s basketball acumen…

Dogpound change

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Not much is happening of late….things are pretty much in a boring routine…which in many cases that would not be a bad thing but when you are trying to build and sell a house which is struggling ..that is not such a good thing. Got to find a way to get on the right side of this circle…hopefully soon. Speaking of getting on the right side of things, there is a lot of talk about the first 100 days of the presidency. I am not sure who came up…
