The recreational cheerleading program at the Hopkins “Bobcat” Athletic Association, Inc. (HBAA) capped a successful season by receiving numerous awards at “The US Finals – The Final Destination” national cheerleading competition in Virginia Beach on May 1-2, according to a press release from HBAA.
Taylor Wray, a gymnast at Southside Gymnastics, placed first all-around in the Virginia Level 8 State Meet on March 21 in Fredericksburg, according to information from Tegan Wray.
On a blustery Tuesday afternoon, the only things close to “hot” were two of the finest pitchers in the Central Region. Dale’s Lacey Waldrop’s two-hit, 23-strikeout performance bested Prince George’s Lauren Vinson in a battle for the top spot in the Central District.
All-district golfer Austin Hamilton completed the transition from the fairway to the tennis court by winning the individual Central District title last week at Meadowbrook High School. He later paired with Andrew Thagard in posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Thomas Dale teammates Min Im and Robert Long.
Wrestling at Matoaca High School reached a pinnacle this past winter with a top 10 finish in the AAA state championships. Blake Roulo became the school’s first state champion at the AAA level, while teammate Josh Clark took home a silver medal. With only one senior in the program, things are definitely looking up for coach Mike Moore’s Warriors.
