Richard Bland College of William & Mary is proud to be the first college in the Commonwealth
to register as an Employer of National Service. As a part of this national program, RBC will have
access to millions of talented applicants who have provided service to our country through
volunteer service.
“Richard Bland College of William & Mary strives to hire highly-qualified and dedicated
individuals who will join the College’s team in advancing 100% student success” says President
Debbie L. Sydow.
The National Service is a federal agency, including programs such as AmeriCorps and Senior
Corps, made up of more than 5 million people who work daily to improve the lives of fellow
citizens through service. Volunteers focus their efforts on six key areas, including disaster
services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures and
veterans and military families.
Deanne N. Bell, Director of Human Resources and Compliance at Richard Bland College, says
the partnership is a “win-win” for both RBC and those who have served.
“Being an Employer of National Service brings intangible benefits to both RBC and the service
member and/or spouse. What RBC, and by extension the larger community, receives in return are
employees who are able to adapt to fluid situations, ready to support in times of crisis and have a
distinct desire to continue to serve their country in some capacity,” Bell says.
As a former service member, Bell also understands the importance of supporting those who serve.
“As a retired Marine Corps Officer, I’m proud to be a part of an institution that readily seeks to
support those who have served their country.”
