Chesapeake Bank has deepened its commitment to the Richmond community with the opening of its new branch in Chesterfield. The bank forged ahead despite challenges from the pandemic to fulfill the vision of expanding its physical presence across a wider footprint in Richmond to better serve local residents and businesses at a time when community banks are needed most. The new branch, led by branch manager Tanja Brown, is located at 10000 Courtview Road, offering a full suite of retail and commercial products and wealth management services. Tommy Adams, commercial loan officer with more than 25 years experience in banking experience has been leading the commercial lending effort in Chesterfield since he joined Chesapeake in 2015 and will continue to serve the new branch. To maintain proper precautions, the bank will initially operate by appointment only maintaining full safety protocol to be a resource to the local community.

Chesapeake Bank has served Richmond through commercial lending since 2011. The bank opened its first retail branch in Westhampton in 2015. Over the last decade, the bank has demonstrated its commitment to the Richmond community through the development of strong, personal relationships with its customers and showcasing a clear distinction in its response to local needs as a community bank. The bank’s “The Buck Stays Here” program celebrates and helps support local businesses through promotional efforts and a robust, free online business directory. Chesapeake has been an advocate for consumers and businesses during this time of crisis, offering existing customers loan payment deferrals and streamlined, proactive access to PPP loans through the SBA.

“I’m excited to see the new Chesapeake branch open because people in that area can benefit from the services Chesapeake Bank provides. It’s good for the community,” said Tanner Collins, Executive Director at BizWorks in Chesterfield, a customer of Chesapeake Bank.”

Nutan Dabhi, office manager of Swift Creek Family Care, a customer of the bank said, “I’ve worked with big banks before and they don’t treat you like family; Chesapeake does. It’s really personal care compared to the big banks. They care about you as a customer and a small business.”

“We are proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to build relationships and support members of the Richmond community, particularly as the region has grappled with significant challenges,” said Frank Bell, Richmond regional executive at Chesapeake Bank. “We are part of the community. Our customers welfare and success matters to us and we look forward to continuing to deepen our service across Richmond.”

Chesapeake Bank has a 120-year legacy in financial services that can be traced to its 1900 founding in Irvington, Virginia, when its customer base was primarily farmers and watermen. Chesapeake Bank’s Chairman, President and CEO, Jeff Szyperski, served as Chairman of the American Bankers Association from 2018 through 2019. And now, as the ABA’s Immediate Past Chair, Szyperski continues to advocate for community banking.
