This year’s National Night Out celebration is less than one month away, but there’s still time to plan and register your neighborhood’s event.
National Night Out is typically celebrated on the first Tuesday in August, but this year’s celebration will take place on Oct. 6, 2020, because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. And the date isn’t the only thing that’s changed this year; because of ongoing social distancing guidelines, parties are going to look a little different, too. Instead of a traditional block party, your neighborhood could:
- Make signs or banners to display in yards
- Have an art contest
- Organize vehicle parades
- Hold a virtual party
Whatever you do to celebrate National Night Out, the Chesterfield County police is excited to participate, whether that means joining your vehicle parade, visiting your virtual party, or driving through your neighborhood to say hello. To register your celebration, visit https://www.chesterfield.gov/1003/National-Night-Out.
Chesterfield County Police will host a free National Night Out Kick-off event from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2020, at Westchester Commons Shopping Center. The event, at which social distancing guidelines will be observed, will feature live entertainment.
Vendors from a variety of public safety and community service agencies, including the Attorney General’s office, Chesterfield County’s Community Emergency Response Team, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, and Chesterfield County Fire & EMS, will also be on hand. The Chesterfield Food Bank will collect donations at the event.
