Firefighters serve at Beulah gazebo, DuPont Spruance facility

Beulah Recreation Center fire

On June 25 around 10:59 a.m., fire and medical personnel were dispatched to the 6700 block of Hopkins Road at Beulah Recreation Center for a fire. “Crews arrived on scene to see smoke and fire coming from the gazebo,” said Captain Joe Harvey, Chesterfield Fire and EMS Deputy Fire Marshal. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. “The cause was improperly discarded smoking materials in the mulch next to the gazebo,” Harvey said. Fire and medical personnel from Dale, Centralia, and Bensley fire stations responded to the emergency.

Dupont chemical spill

Shortly after midnight June 22, fire and medical personnel were dispatched to 5400 Jefferson Davis Highway at DuPont for a chemical spill of between 100 and 200 gallons. The building was evacuated, and foam was sprayed on the chemical to contain it and prevent vapors from rising. Firefighters had to go through a decontamination process after the operation was completed. Hazardous material teams, and fire and medical personnel from Bensley, Dale, Centralia, Airport, and Manchester fire stations assisted DuPont’s Hazmat team and firefighters.

Lightning strikes bank ignites fire

On June 22 around 4:16 p.m., fire and medical personnel were dispatched to the 5600 block of Hopkins Road, the Wells Fargo Bank for a fire. Employees and occupants evacuated while firefighters were on the way. Captain Joe Harvey, Deputy Fire Marshal said, “a small fire was found in the break room electrical panel.” The bank was expected to be closed for several days due to the fire. Harvey said the fire’s cause was a lightning strike. Fire and medical personnel from Dale, Centralia, Bensley, Manchester and Buford fire stations responded to the emergency.
