A traffic detour is scheduled to go into effect on Monday, June 24, along Old Hundred Road – between Ramblewood Drive and Old Stage Road – as part of the Old Bermuda Hundred Road Improvements Project. The detour will remain in place through the end of August. The detour is the first phase of the road construction on Old Bermuda Hundred Road to raise a dip near the Old Stage Road intersection. Cruise-ins are held the first Saturday of the month until September, with the first scheduled April 6 at the Keystone Tractor Museum, 880 W. Roslyn Road in Colonial Heights. Volunteers help clean up the banks of the Appomattox River each spring. Friends of the Lower Appomattox River is hosting its annual Spring River Clean-up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 30. Pick a site and come on out! Help restore healthy shorelines by removing litter, debris and trash from local lands along the Appomattox River at sites in Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell and Petersburg. Charles Wilson Stewart Charles Wilson Stewart, a Lucy Corr Health Care Center resident, celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 29. He was born in Charles City and is the youngest of five children. Stewart worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Binswanger Glass. His daughters Veronica and Blondina, and many of his eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren joined in a birthday dinner.

The James River Advisory Council’s 25th annual Parade of Lights has been rescheduled to July 21 after the December event was canceled due to the weather. The “Christmas in July” Parade of Lights will be held Saturday, July 21. Viewers will gather along the shoreline at several sites along the river in Richmond and Chesterfield and Henrico counties to see the boats and enjoy the entertainment. Admission is free.
