A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Ettrick Park last Tuesday to unveil their newly renovated basketball and tennis courts. The unveiling was held in conjunction with 34th annual National Night Out celebration, an event that brings police and residents together in support of crime prevention. Kelly to serve as interim police chief Col. Thierry G. Dupuis announced that following h is retirement on Sept. 1, 2017, Lt. Col. Daniel W. Kelly will serve as interim chief of police. Kelly’s appointment will be effective Sept. 1, 2017, and will continue until the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors appoints a new chief of police.

Last weekend, Joe and Mary Carroll Jordan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a great gathering of family members and friends. They were married on Aug.10, 1967, at Good Counsel Catholic Church in Little Rock, Ark. Mary Carroll’s uncle, the Rev. Thomas Keller, officiated at the wedding. In December 1967, they moved to Chesterfield, where Joe was to begin teaching mathematics in January 1968 at the new John Tyler Community College. Four locations are now being considered for the Tri-Cities Multimodal Station, a project to consider the construction of a new regional rail station in the Tri-Cities, which includes the cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and Prince George. The existing Petersburg Station in Ettrick currently hosts Amtrak passenger rail service, however additional investment is required to attract and accommodate increased ridership, improve accessibility to the local and regional transportation network, improve ADA accessibility, and provide capacity to support future high-speed rail service. Pocahontas State Park received a grant award of $15,000 from the Garden Club of Virginia for the Heritage Center Conversion to Discovery Center Project. This award is part of the association’s 2020 Centennial Project, which supports various projects in Virginia State Parks. The park’s project to convert the Heritage Center to a Discovery Center began in March and will be completed in the late summer. With approximately 1.15 million visitors and over 6,000 school students visiting the park each year, a Discovery Center will provide the opportunity for visitors to be exposed to areas of the park in ways they…

WASHINGTON – C-SPAN recently announced that Joseph Stoll has been named one of three recipients of C-SPAN’s 2017 Teacher Fellowship Program. Stoll teaches U.S. History and U.S. Government to high school students at L.C. Bird in Chesterfield. He is an AP U.S. exam reader, and he teaches a U.S. History course at Reynolds Community College in Richmond. Now in its 24th year, C-SPAN’s Fellowship Program invites teachers nationwide to apply for an opportunity to collaborate with the network in their Washington headquarters.
