BENSLEY – Elvis lives! Sorta. Seniors at Bensley Community Center recently got to experience an afternoon with Elvis tribute artist, Wrenn Mangum. It was a musical step into the past, and the audience loved it. Bensley Community Center hosted the potluck luncheon Aug. 15. CHESTERFIELD – Brenda White, General Manager of the Chesterfield County Fair, said she is excited about this year’s fair, not because there are more rides on the midway, because of the fried Oreos, or because of the contest for largest pumpkin. The list of performances and activities is what makes second year manager White, smile ear to ear. “I started on the Board of Directors in 2011 as the Pageant Director,” she said. CHESTER – This year’s second annual Hops in the Park is Saturday, November 12, and there are exciting new features being added to the event. We have partnered with a local Richmond artist, Mickael Broth, to have him create this year’s “brand/artwork” for the event.  Thursday, August 18, he will be painting in the Church and Meeting Hall 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. His canvas will be a wooden door built by interpreter Terry Marr, in the style of the Church and Meeting Hall’s front door.

NORTH CHESTERFIELD – Hundreds of excited visitors streamed into the St. Augustine Catholic Church Festival during the four-day event last weekend. Squeals of delight could be heard from excited children as they spotted the pony rides, games, and other midway rides such as the Sizzler and a Ferris wheel. Nineteen young performers showed our community that they can come home again. These actors and singers, current and former students of the Chester Performing Arts Studio (CPAS), came back for a special camp reunion. This two-week celebration culminated with a performance of “High School Musical, Jr.” held July 22 at Thomas Dale High School. The teenagers began planning this event while attending last summer’s camp session. As the rain gave way, the grillers at Bensley Community Center bravely cooked 550 hot dogs, preparing for the National Night Out crowd to arrive. Chesterfield’s largest one-day event, ChesterFest, is gearing up for its biggest and most exciting Fest to date, featuring an evening concert by the Richmond Symphony.
