The Thomas Dale High School Marching Knights traveled to Orlando during spring break in March. Students visited the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Universal Studios. The highlight of the trip was marching in the evening parade at Disney’s Magic Kingdom on March 29. The band explored backstage and performed on a half-mile parade route traveling right past the castle at the center of the park. The couple’s three Rottweilers — Angus, Sprout and Bella — are quick to let passersby know that this is their home. While the dogs may seem intimidating, they are anything but. A sign says changes are coming to Chester Village Shopping Center. A facelift and remodel are coming soon to the Chester Village Shopping Center, a Williamsburg consultant says. On Thursday, July 11, Karl Johnson posted signs at the shopping center, which currently features only one open business: Triple Eight Chinese restaurant. Johnson said that a Virginia Beach company, Hillside Development LLC, is in the process of buying the property from Larry Parks LLC of Washington, D.C. The Board of Directors of the Greater Richmond Partnership, the lead regional economic development group serving the City of Richmond and counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico, recently announced the appointment of Leslie T. Haley, chair of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, as chair of the organization. Haley takes the helm of the GRP following Capital One’s Buck Stinson. The Crater Commission announced that Ron Svejkovsky will be its new director of transportation planning. Svejkovsky, a Chester resident, is replacing David Hyder, who transitioned to an engineering firm located in Raleigh, N.C., after three years of service to the Tri-Cities Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Svejkovsky will be responsible for overseeing the management of the Tri-Cities Area MPO, which provides oversight of transportation funding, as well as the preparation of studies that integrate all aspects of transportation planning.
