L.C. Bird 36, Monacan 6 In a game that totaled 11 turnovers on a rain soaked field at Monacan last Thursday, it was the Skyhawks who emerged victorious in a battle of 5-0 teams, winning 36-6. L.C. Bird (6-0) took advantage of many of the opportunities that were given. scoring all of their touchdowns on drives that started in Monacan (5-1) territory. Of the six Chiefs turnovers, L.C. 1. L.C. Bird (6-0) In the misty, wet rain filled Thursday game with Monacan, it was L.C. Bird that prevailed. In a game marred with 11 turnovers, the Skyhawks turned their six turnovers into 36 points, while the Chiefs struggled to capitalize, only converting one of L.C. Bird’s turnovers into a points. Jalen Elliott came up big in the first half, connecting on touchdown passes to Kier Townsend and Kumonde Hines to set the tone, then J.B. L.C. Bird 36, Clover Hill 0 L.C. Bird improved to 5-0 with a 36-0 shutout of Clover Hill. The defensive shutout was the fourth of the season for the Skyhawks. J.B Wright enjoyed another mammoth game, rushing for 234 yards and two scores on 18 carries. Shedrick McCall and Waymond Pate added rushing touchdowns. Thomas Dale 42, Varina 7 A week after struggling, Thomas Dale’s offense woke up and in a big way as the Knights cruised to a 42-7 victory over Varina in what most thought would be a tightly contested game. Junior quarterback, Matt Lawton tossed two touchdown passes – one to Christian Faber and the other to Mariel Jennings. Malik Johnson, the younger brother of Indiana guard Robert Johnson (L.C. Bird/Benedictine) and former Bird standout running back Yahkee, had quite a football game Friday night. Known for his basketball skills at point guard, Johnson also plays cornerback and running back for the Blue Ridge School. Friday in a 50-20 victory over Hargrave Military Academy he returned a kick for a touchdown, hauled in a touchdown catch and scored a touchdown on the ground.
