The Warriors finished 3-7. Three of those victories came in the final four contests, and there was a more positive vibe coming from the Matoaca locker room at the end of the year. L.C. Bird finished last season 9-3, beating Glen Allen in the first round of the region 5B playoffs in coach Troy Taylor’s first year at the helm. The Skyhawks sent three student athletes to play college football at the next level, including one of the area’s biggest recruits in wide receiver, defensive back and athlete Jaden Payoute, who’ll play for Virginia Tech. Last season, Thomas Dale finished 9-3. That’s an excellent year by any standards, but when you consider what could have been, you wonder what the team may have done if it wasn’t for an onslaught of injuries. The Knights’ coaching staff had to dig deeper into the depth chart than ever before. Thomas Dale had to start seven different quarterbacks due to various injuries.
