The numbers are in for 2015. Chesterfield Fire & EMS answered 39,000 plus calls for service, where greater than 75 percent of the calls for service were medical in nature. What do these numbers mean for you and I versus what do these numbers mean for firefighters? In this article, I will only skim the surface of what the numbers can teach us. The first thing that we see is that calls for service have increased, and I do not expect them…
Matoaca (4-1) The Warriors on the other hand, are not as balanced of a team they have been in the past. That is because they have nine new wrestlers in their 2015-16 line-up and four of them had no wrestling experience previous to this year. Sam Braswell (106), Brandon Woody (113), Noah Roulo (126), Bryson Woody (152), Alvonte Jones (195) and Anthony “Shaun” Helm (295) went undefeated on the day. Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. The new year is not starting out very well…not counting the big drop in the stock market (thank goodness I moved all my stuff into fixed income investment), we had a layoff at work. Never a pleasant event, even if you are not one of unfortunate souls who were walked to the door. I, unfortunately, have had to make that walk in the past and it is not in the least any fun. In the past they would at least wait until Friday afternoon…call you in for a late…
Legislative Showdown Looms Over Guns By Rachel Beatrice and Matt Chaney, Capital News Service The political battle over guns in Virginia is shifting to the state Capitol as the General Assembly convenes Wednesday for its 2016 session. The state’s leading Democrats fired the latest shots: In October, Gov. Terry McAuliffe banned weapons from state buildings. Then last month, Attorney General Mark Herring announced that the commonwealth would no longer recognize concealed handgun permits issued by 25 states that he said do not meet Virginia’s standards. Those moves outraged Republican legislators. Del. Todd Gilbert of Shenandoah, for example, accused Herring of…
The Virginia Senate this week has decided to move the public’s business farther from the public. Norment’s action to refuse to allow journalists onto the Senate floor to cover the General Assembly proceedings, as reported by The Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Washington Post and others. Norment has banished the press to cramped quarters where it is difficult to do its job. The press serves as the public’s eyes and ears in General…
