During the week of November 16 through 20, Matoaca’s FBLA sponsored their annual “Feather the Turkey” event to raise money for the Virginia FBLA State Service Project, ProjectASK. For the past five years, Matoaca’s FBLA has sponsored this event to support ASK, a non-profit organization started by parents of children receiving cancer treatments at the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Forty years later, ASK has now grown to be comprised of parents, health-professionals, and other concerned citizens. The Chesterfield County School Board has hired BWP & Associates to conduct a national search for the next superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools. BWP & Associates representatives Dr. Kevin Castner and Dr. Wayne Harris attended a recent School Board meeting to discuss the search and selection process. BWP will seek a successor to Dr. Marcus Newsome, who announced in the fall that he would retire at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Due to unprecedented demand, HealthCare.gov announced last night that it would be extending the first deadline to Thursday, December 17 at 11:59pm PSTfor people looking to enroll in coverage effective January 1. For the fifth year, visitors of all ages are encouraged to start the New Year on the right foot with a First Day Hike Jan. 1 in a Virginia State Park. Parking is free, and all 36 parks will offer at least one guided hike in addition to self-guided hikes. Police are seeking two suspects who placed skimming devices on two ATMs in Chesterfield County. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, police responded to the SunTrust Bank branch at 13001 Hull Street Road where a skimming device was found by a customer. As the customer removed her card from the ATM, the skimming device came off. The customer then alerted the bank. Surveillance cameras captured images of two suspects, a female and a male, when they returned to the ATM to attempt to remove the device.
