Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. If we know anything about this little world of ours, we know that “change” is always in the wind. I have mentioned in the past that my company has their own little gym, located downtown, up three flights of stairs, and there it is. Surprisingly it used to be a skating ring – has a wood banked floor and everything. I never did find out why they decided to build one on the third story of this old building (many years ago), but they did and it was pretty nice…

By Ashley Jones Every week, Dr. William T. Hark of Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists sees patients who have peanut allergies. Such cases are so common, he says, that he can’t even count them all. “I have heard of cases where peanuts have been in things where people did not realize it,” Hark said. “Some years ago, there was a teenager who died after eating chili and didn’t realize that they used peanut butter as a thickening agent in the chili.” The presence of even minute amounts of peanuts in food poses a danger to people with peanut allergies. In…
1. L.C. Bird (10-0) The Skyhawks ran the table this year, finishing the regular season undefeated for the sixth time in seven years. The defense was, in a word, dominating. L.C. Bird’s defensive team allowed just 19 points all season. Just seven of those points were scored against the first team. Against the run game, they were dominant, allowing just 42 yards on the season. Cruising through the first half of the season which included playoff teams such as Meadowbrook, Thomas Dale, Manchester and Monacan, L.C. Bird defeated those teams by an average margin of about 33 points. Overall, the…
JAMES RIVER GIRLS Joe Sullivan is always nervous, at least when it comes to volleyball. One may think that a coach with such a technical approach and sound understanding of the game wouldn’t be. “I’m nervous the whole time, I’m always anxious to get here and get things started,” Sullivan said. “My daughter and I talked about it on the way to the game, I’m always nervous.” Sullivan didn’t need to be Thursday night. James River cruised, using a typically strong defensive effort to sweep Cosby 3-0 to bring home the Conference 3 Championship. “I love defense, I coach off a…
In 1994 there was a hit sitcom called Sister-Sister, where Tia and Tamera Landry were identical twins with very different tendencies. While sisters Kendall and Makenzy Johnson aren’t twins, the different tendencies they possess make them dangerous on the volleyball court for James River. The Rapids’ Kendall and Makenzy Johnson form of the the better setter-hitter combinations in the Central Region. Surrounding Kendall on the front line are Baylor-commit Nicole Thomas and Randolph-Macon-commit Alexia Wolfe. The talented quartet comprises one of the most talented front lines in the area. This year, nothing less than a state championship will satisfy the…

With each new generation, the memories of names, faces and events of the past slowly deteriorate, to be preserved by historians. We are now in the second year of the World War One Commemoration (2014-2018) and one wonders what we are doing to commemorate the event. Where are the World War One memorials in Chesterfield County? You would not think that a simple memorial can get lost but they do. Instead of being easily located, we have to ask our fellow citizens to help us. Some may know about cemeteries and other obscure and less obvious locations. They may just…
