I know of three fires, in single-family dwellings with attached garages that have resulted in fatalities, in Chesterfield County alone. The fires that I am thinking about have spanned a number of years, the most recent was a few Sundays ago, but all had devastating results. Each one of these fires was horrific to the families that lost loved ones, so I will not speak of any one of these fires as being worse than any other. In addition to these fatal fires, there have been fires in homes, with attached garages, that have destroyed those homes. Do we stop…
Just ask H.D. Woodson coach Lawrence Mines III. His friends call him Trey. A native of Chester, Mines coaches, lives and works in Washington D.C., but for the past two years has returned to play in the Tri-City Holiday Classic. While he won in 2015 and was runner-up this past year, a promising and young coaching career has been impressive, if not spectacular. “His relationship he has with his guys in combination with his knowledge of the game makes him a good coach,” said Thomas Dale coach and life-long friend Braxton Byerson. “Being able to relate to the new style…

Alliance for a Healthier Generation, www.healthiergeneration.org, offers healthy tips for fitness. They report that less…
Robert Johnson, Basketball L.C. Bird/Benedictine Junior at Indiana University Before heading to Benedictine, Johnson was a standout at L.C. Bird. Now in his third season at Indiana, he’s come into his own. A consistent performer, he’s only failed to score in double-figures twice all season, averaging 13.9 points per game. Johnson hit six three-pointers en route to a season high 20 points in a victory over Austin Peay on December 22. Kaaliya Williams, Basketball L.C. Bird High School Freshman at St. Augustine University Williams was a key contributor for L.C. Bird in two deep playoff runs as a junior and…
By Zach Long Track and Field Matoaca: The Warriors are off to strong start for the 2017 indoor track season. Leaning on a little more experience than last year and some fresh new talent, the team has promise heading into the thick of the season. Senior transfer from California, Alexis Newberry has made an immediate impact for the team. She recently broke the school record in the 500-meter dash by six seconds at the Suffolk Stars invitational. Running a blistering 1:21:98, she finished fourth at the meet. Multi-discipline athlete Iva Allen had another solid showing at the meet, finishing eighth…
Hi and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. There is an old saying…that goes like this….”Everything changes but everything remains the same.” We are in a New Year but I still need to spend 30 minutes on the phone with my current television provider because they cannot leave my cable rates alone. Translation…they increased my rates….again…just like they have done for the past two years…every 6 months like clockwork. And likewise every, 6 months I challenge them. In this round….as usual…I ask them if there is anything they can do to keep me as a customer…or do…
