When Ka’lia Johnson ran the floor for coach Kevin Coffey at Thomas Dale as a freshman, everyone could see that she was a special player. When she signed her NCAA National Letter of Intent to play at Duke University, the community was bursting with pride. Now, the 5-foot-11 backcourt specialists will be taking her talents from Chester to the Czech Republic as she signed to play professionally with BLK Slavia Praha. “It’s exciting to achieve my goal of becoming a professional athlete,” Johnson said. “I worked very hard to achieve that goal and will keep working hard.” Johnson was noticed…

In the first quarter last year’s season opener at Cosby, Snead went down, and knew it wasn’t good. The strapping 6-6, 310 pound…

[Sorry for your loss] Included in the letter was a little poem about losing a pet, called “The Rainbow Bridge.” I have to admit after writing three articles since Max’s passing I thought I was over the tears, but that poem brought a…

Memory – what a fantastic part of us. Whether you believe it is a result of God’s best work or an element of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, it remains one of the most important parts of our consciousness. For the most part, memory is stored in the temporal lobe and hippo campus of the brain and stores not only recent memory (short-term) but also long-term memory. Remember the first edition of the Village News in 1998? I can only remember the cover and some of that particular article, but that first issue is ingrained in my memory because it…
