Boys Soccer Coming off a Conference 12 Championship and a 5A South region appearance, Matoaca boys soccer will look to quickly reload and fend off Meadowbrook once again for a championship. Last year’s 13-2-3 season culminated in a defensive battle, a 1-0 loss to Hermitage. Three key components of the team are gone: one of those is Davis Topping, Conference 12 Player of the year and 2nd Team All-State honoree. Bermuda Baptist Church will hold an Easter Sunrise Service on the bluff at Henricus Park, located at 251 Henricus Park Rd., Chester Va 23836. The service will take place on March 27 @ 7 a.m. There will be light refreshments, after the service. In the event of rain, there will not be an alternative location. Virginia Department of Forestry – Escalated fire weather conditions will be present over the Commonwealth of Virginia today and Thursday. “Strong, dry winds will combine with above-normal temperatures and low relative humidity to increase the potential for fast-spreading wildfires,” said John Miller, director of resource protection for the Virginia Department of Forestry. “Wildfires occurring under these conditions represent a dangerous threat to people and property. Care should be used when considering any outdoor activities that could lead to an accidental fire start,” Miller said. The Chesterfield County School Board announced today its unanimous selection of Goochland County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. James F. Lane, a former Chesterfield County school administrator, as the next superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools. Lane’s appointment, which is scheduled to be voted on tonight by the School Board, is effective July 1. A war between Chesterfield residents and a large black bird that weighs between four to five pounds with a wingspan of five feet has been ongoing since 1999. Mainly, users of the Dutch Gap Boat Landing have seen black vultures overrun the area and wreak havoc on their vehicles. In their most recent attempt to disperse the vultures, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) officials have hung dead vulture carcasses from light poles around the Dutch Gap Boat Landing. Virginia’s lawmakers passed a bill which will allow for the eventual production and distribution of low THC marijuana oils in the Commonwealth. After lengthy discussions and negotiations in both houses, SB701, Cannabidiol oil and THC-A oil; permitting of pharmaceutical processors to manufacture and provide, passed the House of Delegates unanimously on Monday. The bill returned to the Senate Tuesday with amendments and passed with a vote of 39-0. It has been almost eight years since American Mobile Home Park, on Jefferson Davis Highway, was closed to make way for a large retail and multi-family development.
