Firefighter injured, two displaced by house fire

One firefighter was injured and two occupants displaced when fire erupted at a house in the 5000 block of Cedarbend Lane on Tuesday, Sept. 17. “Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from a front window and through the roof of the house,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. The occupants evacuated and were not injured. A firefighter was injured and treated at the scene and was not transported to a hospital, Elmore said. The cause is undetermined, Elmore said.

Youths injured in two bus crashes on same day

A county school bus and a tractor-trailer collided at Old Bermuda Hundred and Golf Course roads at 9:16 a.m. Sept. 19. “Seventy juveniles were on board the bus,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Jason Elmore said. “Two were transported for injuries.” The vehicles had moderate damage. “The driver of the tractor-trailer was charged with failure to yield right-of-way,” police spokeswoman Liz Caroon said. Tree removal related to airport runway extension

Work is currently underway at the Chesterfield County Airport to ensure the landing and takeoff airspace in the vicinity is clear of obstruction. As part of this planned maintenance, trees were cut or removed from the area. The project is also the first step in the county’s effort to extend the runway length from 5,500 feet to 6,300 feet, which will enhance safety and increase opportunities for utilization of the airport. Carver Middle School’s Teacher of the Year loves numbers, which is fitting, as she teaches seventh-grade math. LaToya Daniels originally majored in accounting, but she decided to follow her heart to work with kids. Daniels has been teaching for 16 years and has been at Carver for four.
