With the exception of the year-round schools, all other area schools started the fall 2019 session on the Tuesday after Labor Day, Sept. 3. Schools starting means school buses picking up children, school zones being active, increased traffic, and, in some cases, walkers. These changes require that each of us drive with heightened awareness. For some, it will require a complete change of driving attitude. Now, he’s the latest inductee into the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame and its first steel guitarist. 17 cats die in house fire

Four occupants were displaced and 17 cats died after a fire ripped through a home at the 2700 block of Milhorn Street on Thursday, Sept. 5. Milhorn Street is located west of Jefferson Davis Highway, just south of Woods Edge Road. The call came in at 5:33 p.m. “The crews arrived on scene to heavy fire showing from the back of the home,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS Lt. Jason Elmore said. “The occupant had self-evacuated while firefighters were on the way.” Elmore said three adults and one child were displaced. The fire cause is under investigation. Chesterfield resident Frances Murphy is running to raise funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Murphy’s friend Amanda Moody will be running to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society because her husband, Art, suffers from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Time Travelers Passport offers free admission to 19 historic sites
