The meeting was followed by a tour of the historical property Violet Bank, which was part of the 144 acres purchased by Thomas Shore in 1775. It was the first recorded settlement in Colonial Heights. Chesterfield wins achievement awards for counties
0Last week, the Virginia Association of Counties named Chesterfield County the recipient of two 2019 Achievement Awards, including the program’s highest recognition, the “Best Achievement Award.” The county leads the VACo all-time achievement list with 32 awards, earning at least one award since the program’s inception. The VACo Achievement Awards highlight innovative programs focused on addressing high-priority issues that challenge counties today. This year, the county received two awards, including the overall Best Achievement Award, recognizing the Police Experience Program and the county’s Detention Review Team. New principal on board at Meadowbrook High School
0Marcie Terry is pictured with artwork at Meadowbrook High School, 4901 Cogbill Road. Meadowbrook High School has a new principal: Marcie Terry. She grew up in Brunswick County and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Her original career goal was to be a biochemist, so she moved to Atlanta and attended Georgia Tech, where she received her master’s degree in biochemistry. While there she did breast cancer research, and her work was published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry in 2013. Later she began teaching science Avondale High School in DeKalb County, Ga.
