Antiques evaluation coming March 16
0CHESTERFIELD — The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will host its annual antiques evaluation from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, indoors at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. Oral evaluations will be provided on a wide variety of items as well as detailed photos of an item. Parking is free and food will be available to purchase. CCPL hosting events for Black History Month
0CHESTERFIELD — Chesterfield County Public Library will host a number of events in February to commemorate Black History Month. ‘Myths and Folktales from Africa’ “Magic of the Motherland: Myths and Folktales of Africa” will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Enon Library, 1801 Enon Church Road. Story teller Justin Leak will highlight the diversity of cultures in Africa in an interactive performance. The program is scheduled three times. Charges withdrawn for second time in Tasing incident

Misdemeanor obstruction of justice and illegal window tint charges were recently withdrawn for the second time against a 23-year-old Richmond man who was Tased by Chesterfield police last year. James Edward Monk was initially charged following an incident at 12:30 a.m. March 28 near Virginia State University. The charges were originally withdrawn Aug. 22, refiled Oct. 10 and withdrawn again Dec. 17. County seeks input on Jeff Davis Hwy transit options
0The Chesterfield County Department of Transportation, in partnership with a local research and consulting company, is conducting a survey about the Jefferson Davis Highway corridor to better understand the needs and perceptions about transportation in the area. Results from the survey will help the county determine how to serve needs in the future. Michael Blankenbecler, James River High School’s boys volleyball coach, never expected to become a coach, much less have three state championships tucked comfortably under his belt within the first five seasons of his career. In fact, Blankenbecler’s earliest athletic endeavors didn’t involve volleyball at all, but baseball and basketball, sports he began playing when he was about 9. “There aren’t many opportunities to play volleyball that young,” Blankenbecler explained. Bank the high bidder for county property
0John Harmon stands outside a building the county plans to sell at Beach Road and Route 10. A county-owned property on the corner of Beach Road and Route 10 may soon become a Chesapeake Bank. John Harmon, the county’s real property manager, said the bank was one of four companies that submitted bids on the property, which is located at 10000 Courtview Lane, south of Beach Road and west of Route 10.
