Volunteers at Pocahontas State Park gear up

0

Pocahontas State Park volunteers received a big lift from outdoor retailer REI, this time in the form of a large trailer intended to support those building and maintaining trails at the park. The trailer was purchased with a $4,000 donation made by REI Richmond last year and recently filled with hand tools from an additional contribution of $2,500. These donations come on the heels of the $20,000 REI Richmond provided to Friends of Pocahontas State Park in 2018. Those funds were used to help establish the Co-Op Trail, which opened in 2019 and is now the most popular hiking trail…

Keyontae Lewis  – along with his teammate Aubriel Wingfield – recently picked up offers from Bryant College. Now, he’s picked up two more offers of his own. The 6-8 center was given offers by Division II Shaw and Tusculum over the past few weeks. Tusculum offered June 18, while Shaw extended its scholarship offer exactly a month later on July 18. Dale sophomore Givens offered by Queens-Charlotte

One of Thomas Dale’s talented rising sophomores was rewarded for her talent and potential with her first scholarship offer. Guard Elayna Givens got it from Division II Queens-Charlotte. “This is a testament to the potential she has as a student-athlete,” said Thomas Dale coach Leon Gholson. “Her freshman year saw her make tremendous strides during the season.” A big, strong guard, Givens contributed mostly on the defensive side of the ball, with her coach urging her to be more aggressive offensively. She flourished in both areas of the game. A marksman from the three-point line, Givens will almost certainly attract…

Preventing the spread

0

Life since March has been much more different from any one of us could have ever expected. As you may or may not remember, I was in Africa, from March 2-14. Within a week of getting back home, national borders began to shut down all around the globe. For countries with substandard healthcare, the best solution was a complete lockdown of the entire country. Limiting the movement of people was the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19. Four months later, we don’t know who or what to trust. Is COVID as bad as some say, or is this…
