Fire Chiefs Association Honors Chesterfield’s Chief Senter

The Virginia Fire Chiefs Association today recognized Chesterfield County Fire Chief Edward “Loy” Senter Jr. with its highest honor, the Glenn A. Gaines Leadership Legacy Award. Senter accepted the award while attending the Virginia Fire Rescue Conference in Virginia Beach. The award is named for former U.S. Fire Administrator and Fairfax County Fire Chief Glenn Gains, an icon in the fire-services industry. Senter was selected from a pool of nominees, which can include any current career or volunteer firefighter in Virginia. A few days ago, a mobile home caught fire, destroying the mobile home and displacing the two occupants. I do not know whether the results of the investigation are known yet, as to what caused the fire. I do not know the statistics, but it seems that more mobile home fires are occurring. I can remember, when I first became a firefighter in Chesterfield County, that it seemed almost like a daily occurrence to run a working trailer fire. C.C. Wells Elementary School participated in the first Jump Rope for Heart fund raiser benefiting the American Heart Association. The school raised $3,744.87 as of press time. Track athletes bring home titles and honors during state performance

Thomas Dale: The Knights accomplished quite a feat at the 6A state indoor track and field championship in Hampton over the weekend. Every single athlete on the team received all-state honors. Titiana Marsh claimed her third straight triple jump state title, with a jump of 42 feet. Now she has the opportunity to win her fourth title next year and sweep the title through her entire high school career. The L.C. Bird boys’ basketball team couldn’t have picked a better time to start playing like a well-oiled machine.
