A Freak Accident
0A windy day at the Virginia Beach turned tragic when a Chester woman was struck by a beach umbrella and died. My prayers go out to this family. Accidents like this define a freak accident. The accident, in my opinion, which everyone would say could never happen until it does. How many of us carry beach umbrellas, canopies, and tents to block a little bit of sun from hurting us while making it a bit more bearable on those hot days? Published Poets at Ettrick Elementary
0Each year, teachers at Ettrick Elementary School submit student poems for inclusion in a National Poetry Anthology. Many are accepted for publication annually. All Ettrick third-graders submitted poems. Forty-four student poems have been chosen for inclusion in the May 2016 edition of “A Celebration of Poets,” a national poetry anthology. This annual distinction is bestowed upon less than half of all students nationally. Ettrick Elementary has been designated a Poetic Honor School because of the high quality of poems they had published. The hard cover book is a source of pride for students and parents.
Clarke named Gifted Teacher of the Year
0Rhonda Bailey-Clarke, a fifth grade teacher at Curtis, was recently named the Chesterfield County Gifted Teacher of the Year. Just last week, she was named the Region 1 Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted for the state of Virginia. 0When Chester residents Brenda and Bryan Vay met on the first day of classes at the University of Virginia, it may have been love at first sight. Thirty years later, they’re still happily married and a little over a year away from having an empty nest.
