Knights Continue to Roll, Travel to Oscar Smith for State Semis

0

With their 13-7 victory last Friday night over Cosby at Ed Karpus field, Thomas Dale secured a date with destiny this Saturday. The Knights, who won the 2009 state championship, will get a rematch with Oscar Smith, the team they defeated 20-17 in the state semi-finals when late coach Vic Williams led them to the Promised Land. “Let’s do this for coach Williams and Ben Brockwell!” a player yelled in the huddle after the victory Friday night’s win. That has been a theme for the Knights this season. From the recurring green and pink socks they have worn for renal…

BOYS Coming off of a great 23-3 season, the Skyhawk boys will be looking for vengeance. The Warriors cruised through the playoffs to the title. Despite the loss of Kenny Williams (UNC) and C.J. Miles (Roanoke College) the Skyhawks will simply reload, not rebuild. Projected Starting Five G – Johquin Wiley G – Mario Haskett F – Charles Falden F – Tahkey Williams C – Jyles Webster Top Player: Mario Haskett is this year’s top…

BASKETBALL PREVIEW: Meadowbrook

BOYS Meadowbrook finished 17-7 last year, and this year’s version of the team is going to have to work hard to reach last year’s level of success. They graduated all five starters (Antonio Davis, Khylil James, Tyshawn Jeter, Elijah Baker and Wesley Hardaway), but they should get a boost from James “Amp” Williams who transferred from Clover Hill. The Monarchs ended their season last year in a 63-59 loss to Matoaca, coming in the Conference 12 tournament. Projected Starting Five G – Alphonzo Mason G – Daequan Young G – James Williams F – Jordan Jeter F – Richard Legree…

Holidays in the Dogpound

0

Hello and welcome back to the holiday edition of the Dogpound. As usual we at the Dogpound lose track of holidays and stick to our philosophy that for the most part holidays are just a reminder of something we should be doing on a regular bases. So for starters, a big shout out to all that have proudly served or are serving to keep this great country safe and free (Veteran’s Day). I served by joining the Army ROTC while in college and when it became time for me to become active, the Army, by a toss of the coin,…

Elizabeth Warren Still Not Endorsing Hillary

During her eight years as a senator, Hillary Clinton was part of a small but growing club of Democratic women. They gathered for monthly off-the-record dinners, shared a tiny ladies’ room just off the Senate floor and looked out for each other. They also shared dinners in DC and Northern Virginia locations. Clinton helped out in her own way, raising their collective profile and hitting the campaign trail for many of them. On Monday, 13 of them came together at a Capitol Hill hotel to return the favor for Clinton, each making her case for the Democratic presidential front-runner in…

Red Cross asks for blood donations this holiday season

0

The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to end the year with real meaning by donating blood for hospital patients in need. Holiday activities, severe weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can pull people away from their regular blood donation schedules. This creates a greater need for blood donations this time of year, especially around the winter holidays. To encourage donations, all those who come to donate Dec. 23, 2015, through Jan. 3, 2016, will get a long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last. Jamie Czesak made her first blood donation on Dec. 27, 2013. “As I spent Christmas…
