Urban Agriculture Symposium Slated for October 3

The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Urban Agriculture Symposium, a day of workshops and discussions about growing food in urban areas for personal use or for sale, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Fairlington Community Center, located at 3308 S. Stafford St., Arlington. Topics that will be discussed at the event include growing vegetables in small backyard spaces or community gardens, soilless production of mushrooms and microgreens, producing food for community food banks and planting trees that provide both shade and fruit. Frink commits to Lynchburg Thomas Dale girls volleyball standout Sydney Frink, a senior, has committed to play at Lynchburg College. Frink has led the program for the past three seasons not only statistically, but in a leadership role as well. The Lady Knights have won four contests this year and picked up two victories this past week against Dinwiddie and Petersburg. Frink recorded 16 kills against the Generals and followed up with a nine kill, ten dig performance against the Crimson Wave. J.B Wright enjoyed another mammoth game, rushing for 234 yards and two scores on 18 carries. Shedrick McCall and Waymond Pate added rushing touchdowns. The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) announces that the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Southeast Corridor from Richmond to Raleigh (passing through Chesterfield in Chester) has been signed by the Federal Railroad Administration, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and DRPT.
