Top Prospects
0Christopher Artis, MBK 6-3 305 OT Senior No Offers A big, physical blocker, Artis is imposing on a high school field and has a body that can easily translate to the college level. Howard University is very interested in Artis and dipped into the area last year and nabbed Monacan’s Isaiah Fludd to play on their line. Meadowbrook is no stranger to producing quality lineman, and Adam Tiller has a big time anchor in 2015. Artis has handled early assignments well against top tier teams in L.C. Bird, Hermitage and Highland Springs and should be considered a slam dunk to…

Dogpound Cleaning
0Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Right now I am dogged tired. I have been cleaning house all week. When I mean cleaning, I have been cleaning the outside of the house. Once a year I give the siding a good cleaning to get the dirt, bugs, bird droppings, and mildew off. I am sure everyone has seen those commercials where you just spray some chemicals on, and like magic, you have bright, clean, good-as-new siding. I have never had that experience. I have a wrap -around porch, from the living room entrance way around to…
Rapid Rise
0If you don’t look twice, you’d think coach Michael Blankenbecler is a player on James River’s boys volleyball team. At 25 years years of age, he blends in, but he’s had a successful coaching career including a trip to the state championship game last season. The Rapids are looking to do that one better this year by winning a state title. “It’s nice because I get to play in practice,” Blankenbecler said. “I have experience playing, I know what they have been through, and I can show them what it means to be a top level team.” Blankenbecler would know…
Village News Sports Top 5
01. L.C. Bird (4-0) After a lackadaisical first half effort, the L.C. Bird Skyhawks woke up, scoring 28 points in the second half to put away Manchester 35-0. The Lancers won on a hail mary last year in week 10 of the season. Though dominant on defense, pitching their third shoutout of the season and just allowing a single touchdown to Thomas Dale in the fourth quarter, the Skyhawks are not without a chink in their armor. At times, the offense has struggled to produce for periods of time. That simply wasn’t the case of the second half, as J.B.…

Chesterfield has gone pedestrian
0Sidewalks are showing up from Meadowbrook to Ettrick in the south east of Chesterfield. A new pedestrian walk was recently completed on Cogbill Road from Meadowbrook High School west to Iron Bridge Road. The two-tenths-of-a-mile project also included landscaping with crepe myrtles and period streetlights as well as curb and gutter on about half the project. “Many people have been asking for pedestrian accommodations on Cogbill,” said Jesse Smith, director of transportation for Chesterfield County. The last section of sidewalk completed the county’s plan for sidewalks between Ironbridge and Hopkins roads, according to Smith. “I am excited to say that…
