0As Memorial Day has arrived, swimming pools have opened everywhere. A drowning can occur at any time during the year, but the probability of drowning goes up during the warmer months. The more people in the water, the greater the chance that someone may get in trouble. Death by drowning is preventable and it is my hope that those who read this will heed my warnings and have a great summer. As in many circumstances where children are concerned, parental supervision is a vital part of drowning prevention. Parents should constantly watch their child. Harrowgate Fire Station Grand Opening
0Over 150 guests officially welcomed Harrowgate Fire Station No. 21 to the community with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, April 26. During the reception, guests were able to tour the station. The station will serve over 8,000 residents, 18 percent of the county’s industrial sites and 10 percent of its storage facilities. 0Daniel Cheatham, a graduate of Thomas Dale High school and Longwood University, was commissioned as an officer in the Army National Guard at Fort Pickett on April 18. After serving in the Guard since 2006 as a pharmacy tech, Sgt. Cheatham applied and was accepted into the Accelerated OCS, SOC program. At the graduation ceremony, Cheatham was referred to as a “natural leader” by guest speaker SFC Michael E. Nolan.
