S’Zahria Jones is headed to Virginia Wesleyan. The senior only played one season with L.C. Bird, but made an impact. Jones had played three years at point guard for Hermitage before. According to his Twitter account, @PhillipAllenJr1, this was the cornerback’s third collegiate offer, following Brevard (N.C.) College and UVA-Wise. “Phillip is long and athletic,” said Thomas Dale football coach Kevin Tucker. “He worked so hard to get his body into shape for the 2019 season. At 5-9, the senior averaged a double-double this season with 11.5 points, and 12.9 rebounds per game. Not only was she a good player for the Warriors on offense, but she was also an outstanding defender. On the defensive end she averaged 4.7 steals, and 5.2 blocks a game. Food on the Move program busy during COVID-19 crisis
0The Chesterfield Food Bank is supporting families hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis that has developed with massive store closings and layoffs. Already feeding more than 16,000 Chesterfield residents in need; the food bank has registered nearly 5,000 new clients in the last six weeks. “It was a bit overwhelming at first,” executive director Kim Hill said. “But my team was quick to respond to the challenge and set new procedures and programs in place.” She said that with safety in mind, the food bank “immediately” began a “protocol” involving hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks. “We…
County has new EMC, supervisors ready budget adoption
0Chesterfield County supervisors held a restricted-access meeting March 25 that included a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget. Only two persons spoke during public comment at the meeting, likely due to the restrictions imposed because of fallout from the coronavirus. Among the items approved as part of the consent agenda was hiring Jessica Robison at the new Emergency Management Coordinator. She had been in place on an interim basis from March 7.
