Turmeric disclaimer
0To the Editor: In response to Diane Merryman’s article about Tumeric she needs to clarify that anyone thinking of taking a supplement needs to discuss it with his or her doctor. The person needs to make sure it won’t interact with medications the person is already taking. If a person is diabetic or on blood thinner (including aspirin) he or she shouldn’t take it due to the interaction between the medications. Martie McKenzie

How about them?
0If your house catches on fire, how will your children get out? Your house catching on fire is bad enough, but add to it that a member of your family could not get out and that makes it even worse. The fire service has been doing pre-fire planning for years. It is high time that we take on this same attitude concerning our family that lives in our home. A fire could occur at any time, day or night. The actions taken by occupants during the day are different from the actions that may be taken at night, especially after…

This is what happens when I write articles weeks in advance. Grrrr! Just wants me to stomp my foot. But wait, I cannot do that. Why, you ask? Good question. I had my toenail root cut out, and there will be no stomping or kicking for a few weeks. Not sure why, but in the past five years, ingrown toenails have been a painful thing for me. Several years ago, I finally gave…
Pilgrim’s progress
0Beulah kindergarten teacher sees where it all begins Lauren Pilgrim became a teacher because of her fourth-grade teacher. Pilgrim said she always enjoyed teaching and she was doing it even when she didn’t know she was. Pilgrim viewed teaching as a gift and her passion, so she went back to school (she was a single mother) and received her degree in early childhood and elementary education from Virginia Union University. She started her career in Richmond City Public Schools and was awarded Teacher of the Year twice (when she taught at Clark Springs Elementary and Summer Hill Preschool Center); she…
