From crawl space to attic

0

In the past couple of weeks, fire units have responded to a number of fire incidents, but there are two that I want to focus on. The first fire occurred in a crawl space involving a hot water heater. The second fire occurred in an attic. The attic and the crawl space are, in most cases, the highest and lowest spaces in the home. Both of these spaces are rarely visited by homeowners or occupants, unless access is easy, and even then, most people avoid these two spaces. With the exception of a lightning strike to a roof, most attic…

PohlChase A woman who calls herself a “liberal Christian” and campaigned last week with Alec Baldwin in western Matoaca is challenging an incumbent gun-toting woman who defied party politicos and recently got kicked out of a county Republican Party committee. The Senate District 11 race pits Democrat Amanda Pohl vs. Republican Amanda Chase in a district that includes most of Chesterfield County along with Colonial Heights and Amelia County. The district leans Republican, and Chase said her campaign’s internal polls have her up by 4 percentage points. On Oct. 16, Pohl told Joe Morrissey on his 100.5 FM WJFN radio…

(Catherine Tompkins photo) As a food service associate at Gates Elementary School, Avis Baker sees daily the amazing learning experiences that “Team Chesterfield” teachers provide within the remarkable learning environments they create. Hoping to support teachers in her community, Baker recently entered her two children’s middle school into a national K-12 sweepstakes held by Burlington Stores, Inc. and AdoptAClassroom.org. On Oct. 22, Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org officials paid a surprise visit to Salem Church Middle to announce that…

The catch set off a delirious celebration as Thomas Dale sank Matoaca 19-14. “We had D-Lo [D’Angelo Gray] coming behind everyone on the play. They tipped it, and he was there,” Thomas Dale coach Kevin Tucker said. “When your…

Bird loses a tough one, Meadowbrook falls

L.C. Bird’s offense failed to find the end zone last week against Monacan, losing a 14-0. The 7-1 Chiefs got their third win in a row over Bird not having not defeated the Skyhawks since 1998. “Our coaching staff did a great job of preparing our guys tonight,” Monacan coach Jim Henderson said. “We also had a great performance up front with our players making good tackles.” All of the game’s offensive scores came in the first half. Monacan struck in the first quarter, with running back Keyshawn Jefferson punching in a 3-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, the Chiefs…

Aggravation

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound, where we are not happy campers. I was supposed to be watching my Buckeyes play Northwestern on TV, but it appears my local station decided that the baseball playoff is more important? Say what? So, I found a radio station on the Internet. It’s not the same, but serves the purpose. To make matters a bit worse, I decided that it would be a good night to have a “cheat night.” I went off my diet and made homemade pizza to eat during the game. The pizza was good,…
