During the early 1900s until the mid-1960s, postcards were the way people kept in touch with friends and family.  Many have compared antique postcards to our present-day emails.  Cards feature street scenes, views of long-gone buildings, beautiful artwork on holiday and greeting cards, as well as almost any other conceivable topic.

On November 13 and 14 at John Tyler Community College, this year’s 38th Annual Old Dominion Postcard Club Show will be the largest ever.  Everyone is invited to attend this event, one of the biggest Postcard Shows on the East Coast. According to show chairman, Tim O’Gorman, it is also one of the longest running annual Shows in the United States, and has been featured on PBS TV’s Virginia Currents, which may be viewed on the Club’s website: www.olddominionpcc.com.

“Since we moved to the college campus two years ago, the Show has really taken off,” said O’Gorman.

“With expanded publicity, we anticipate a great crowd this year,” said Club President and Show promotor Mike Uzel.  “We have several events happening in the community prior to the Show.”
An exhibit of Club members’ postcards is currently on display at the Chester Library.

With two full days, there promises to be something for everyone at this Show.  From beginner to advanced collector, the vendor population will have everything from 25c boxes of cards to that special elusive postcard rarity.  Archival postcard supplies will also be available.  Show times are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, November 13, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, November 14.   A donation of $3 is requested, good for both days.  Plenty of free parking.  Anyone with an interest in history or art is encouraged to attend.
