Navigating the Medicare Maze – Chesterfield Council on Aging

Do you have questions about Medicare? On Oct. 26, 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. a session will cover the basics of Medicare, an explanation of the A/B/C/D plans, as well as ways to fill in the gaps with various insurance coverage options. Olivia Claud of the Virginia State Corporation Commission will present the program and answer questions afterward. The session will be held at Lucy Corr Village (Mast Auditorium), 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd.

Health and Safety in the Home

Chesterfield’s firefighter/paramedic, David Webb, will discuss the county’s Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program. Webb will explain how specially trained paramedics work closely with community resources to help address potential service gaps and promote healthy lifestyle choices. This workshop, from the “Soup for the Caregiver’s Soul” series is free of charge and open to the community. It will be held Nov. 2, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd.

Caregiver Connection Support Group
Caregiver Connection helps address the needs of those who are caring for an adult with physical or cognitive deterioration, usually a parent or spouse. The support group meeting on Nov. 7, 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., will be held at Lucy Corr Village Assisted Living Friendship Room, 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd.

Kinship Connection Support Group
Kinship Connection is a support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren, and other family members raising children. The group meeting, Nov. 16, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. will be held at the Community Development Building, Multi-purpose Room, 9800 Government Center Pkwy.

Lawyers Helping Seniors Clinic

At a special clinic legal documents (will, advanced medical directive, power of attorney) will be prepared at no cost for eligible Chesterfield seniors. This program, Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is for individuals who do not have these legal documents prepared. Appointments are limited and registration is required. The location will be provided at the time appointment is set. To confirm eligibility and register, please call the Chesterfield Office of the Senior Advocate at (804) 768-7878.
