John Tyler Community College is hosting a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in Hamel Hall, Room H109, at the college’s Midlothian campus, 800 Charter Colony Parkway.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Karl Leonard will be the keynote speaker. Leonard served as a Coast Guard reservist for 30 years, and has more than 30 years of experience working in local law enforcement. He began his law enforcement career as a deputy in the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office before moving to the Chesterfield County Police Department, where he became a patrolman and rose through the ranks to the position of major before his retirement from the department in 2012.

He began working for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 before being appointed sheriff the next year. He was then elected to the position later in 2014 during a special election and was re-elected in 2015.
