Matoaca boys’ soccer finished last season 8-6-2 under Jay Parker, who’s now the football coach. This will be Victor Malagisi’s first year at the helm.
“Our system of training and play has changed from the past, and the players are responding positively to the new system being developed at Matoaca,” said Malagisi.
Malagisi didn’t want to talk specifics on individuals, but said that senior goalkeeper Justin Almond will be taking over duties minding the net.
“I know my players are poised to be successful and prepared to take on any challenge they are presented with,” said the first-year coach. “I have a great but young team and player development has been a challenge, but the boys are willing to learn and we are enthusiastic about being successful this season.”
As of press time, the Warriors are 2-1, having defeated Highland Springs 7-2 and Petersburg 10-1 and lost to Thomas Dale 3-1.
