With the ongoing celebration of Black History Month in February, the Chesterfield County Historical Society (CHSV) and its African-American History Committee has compiled the life story of the man behind the naming of Mimms Loop – Cornelius Mimms, a Chesterfield County resident who was born before the Civil War and became an important African-American leader. In his honor, a new exhibit entitled, Cornelius Mimms: A Legend and Legacy opened this month at the Chesterfield County Museum, 6813 Mimms Loop in the Chesterfield government complex. The exhibit will run through the fall. Cornelius Mimms was born September 17, 1857 during slavery.…

Miss Chesterfield uses her crown to promote anti-bullying message Athlete, student, beauty queen, survivor, fighter, leader, winner; select any of these descriptions and they will describe Taylor Reynolds. Twenty-one-year-old Reynolds was crowned Miss Chesterfield on January 10 and will be representing Chesterfield in the Miss Virginia 2016 pageant in June. The American flag that flew over the Chester Village Green 24 hours a day disappeared during the snow storm on January 24. The flag was an oversized flag and had to be special ordered. The flag was provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chester. They also provided lighting for the flag. It is believed that with the weight of the snow on the cable, the cable broke bringing the flag to the ground. It is believe that it may have been picked up for protection.
