In today’s society, self-defense may be crucial. “Self-defense is extremely important, not just for the mind, but for the body as well,” said Doug Taylor, one of the head instructors at Dong’s Karate in Chester. Self-defense includes physical and mental preparation, he said during a Feb. 8 self-defense class. RICHMOND – Sean, 25, didn’t socialize much in high school, but respite weekends at the Greater Richmond ARC’s Camp Baker in Chesterfield now give him the chance. Sean truly enjoys his time with his Camp Baker buddies, according to his mom Teresa, who says it is a safe place where he gets a break from his daily household routine. Diggin’ in History Beginner Archaeology Camp is designed for children ages eight through 12. The children will learn how to search for clues from the past. Hands-on activities include site surveys, excavations, and artifact repair. A field trip to the Prince George Heritage Museum is included. The date for this camp is August 8-12. The Chesterfield County Public Library will offer a free summer meals program for children 18 years old and younger. The lunch program is scheduled June 20-July 27, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at three of the county’s libraries. The USDA; funded program involves a partnership with Childcare Resources, a national agency with local headquarters that provides food, resources and education. The program is open to all children, and no enrollment is necessary. This is the second year that Chesterfield County Public library has participated in the program.
