Lisa Coffey, of Chester, has joined Da Capo Virginia as an instructor offering private lessons in trumpet and other brass instruments, according to information from the organization. Coffey earned a bachelor’s degree in music education at Virginia Tech and a master’s of education in administration and supervision from Virginia State University.
The Tools for School program is gearing up to help provide school supplies for hundreds of children whose families are served by the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services. It’s anticipated that around 900 children will need assistance this school year, up from 800 last year, according to information from Chesterfield County.
Several area residents are among the 486 Virginia Military Institute cadets who were recently named to the Dean’s List for the second semester of academic year 2009-10, according to information from the school. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a cadet must have a term grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no grade below C.
John Tyler Community College recently announced its honors list students for the spring 2010 semester. Students named to the list have completed at least 24 credit hours at John Tyler and have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5, according to the school.

More than 50 local scholars were named to the dean’s list at Virginia Tech for the spring 2010 semester, according to information from the school. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.
Registration for fall 2010 classes at John Tyler Community College will begin July 12 and run through Aug. 20, according to information from the school.
