The Florida State Seminoles, led by Lacey Waldrop were able to repeat as ACC Tournament Champions for the second straight season. The Seminoles swept three games in Blacksburg, Va., last weekend defeating Boston College, North Carolina State and Pitt for the crown.
Waldrop picked up her 28th win of the season pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs in the first round to Boston College, striking out seven Eagles. Though her second two starts in the tournament did not go as smoothly, she was supported by excellent relief pitching by Jessica Burroughs, a redshirt sophomore. Burroughs combined to pitch 10.2 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run as the Seminoles won the crown.
As of press time, Waldrop has amassed a 28-6 win/loss record, becoming the all-time leader at Florida State in wins. Waldrop has pitched in 39 games, and, in 201.2 innings, the senior has limited hitters to a .165 batting average, while notching a 1.49 ERA and striking out 222 batters.
The senior and reigning National Softball Player of the Year will look to shake off her last couple of outings as Florida State prepares for Dartmouth in the Super Regionals this weekend, on Friday, May 15.
