This week, Crime Solvers revisits a 2013 shooting that stunned Chesterfield County. Shortly before 9 p.m. on July 4, 2013, 7-year-old Brendon Mackey was struck by a bullet just prior to the fireworks display at Sunday Park. Ballistics tests revealed the bullet that stole this young child’s life to be a .40 caliber class, full metal jacket.
Chesterfield detectives continue to ask for the public’s help with information on this heartbreaking case. The bullet appears to have been fired randomly into the air as a result of celebratory gunfire. We would like to remind the public that as of July 1, 2014, Brendon’s Law was put into effect, making celebratory gunfire resulting in injury a felony.
Family and friends of Brendon Mackey have established an additional reward fund for information that will lead to the successful resolution of this case.
