Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office can now be spotted County-wide in new dark-blue uniforms.
The Sheriff’s Office recently made the switch from the traditional tan-and-brown uniforms to dark-blue ones featuring a light blue stripe. Sheriff Karl Leonard sought to develop a new uniform that would enable the Sheriff’s Office to stand out from among other agencies in the region and the state, while enhancing a sense of identity, professionalism and pride among the deputies. A new lighter-weight field uniform was also developed in white to be worn on some assignments.
Sheriff’s deputies came up with the design ideas and voted on the uniform chosen to represent the department.
The new uniform reflects a savings of $33 per uniform over the old uniforms. The transition to the new uniform for the approximately 300 deputies in the department will take place over the course of the next year.
