Parents of swimmers want to take Chesterfield high school athletics one step further. They want to set up swim teams or clubs that would represent each high school in the county.
The mission is, “We believe high school swim teams will encourage fitness, self confidence, discipline, team work and an overall feeling of well being that translates to success not only in the classroom but promotes a positive school environment,” according to the group’s website.
SWIM Chesterfield was created in an effort to gain Chesterfield County School Board approval for the implementation of club level Parent-Run and Parent-Funded competitive high school swim teams with the ultimate goal of becoming an official VHSL sport.
The high-school clubs would be able to compete against other clubs and private schools as well as neighboring counties. Fundraising could offset club operation costs and provide the opportunity for club spirit events, indicates SWIM Chesterfield.
The group of parents who introduced the idea, and who seek approval from Chesterfield’s School Board promises parent involvement and participation in meets.
