The Chesterfield County Fair, in conjunction with the Virginia Egg Council, sponsored a dessert recipe contest on Saturday, Aug. 29 during the 102nd Chesterfield County Fair. Any type of dessert could be entered as long as it was made with at least six eggs. There were 17 desserts entered for judging all which looked scrumptious. The judges were very thorough in their examination and tasting of each dessert – a job they really enjoyed. The winners were: 1st Place, Sarah Miranda (Happily Ever Mocha Cake); 2nd Place, Marie Shiflett (Triple Chocolate Buttermilk Pound Cake); and 3rd Place, Lucy Wilkinson (Six-Layer Toasted Coconut Cake with Lemon Curd Filling). By winning at the county fair, the three ladies were then eligible to enter their desserts at the State Fair where Lucy Wilkinson placed second.
