School Board seeks input on 2016-17 calendar by Dec. 4

The Chesterfield County School Board (CCPS) is seeking comments from parents, students, employees and the community about the proposed calendar for 2016-17, which is available online at mychesterfieldschools.com. Also available online is a form to use to submit comments about the proposed calendar. People may email comments to [email protected] or mail them to Proposed Calendar, CCPS, P.O. Box 10, Chesterfield, VA 23832. Comments will be accepted through Dec. 4; the School Board is scheduled to vote on the calendar during its Dec. 8 meeting.

The proposed calendar includes these highlights

  • Classes begin Sept. 6, the first Tuesday after Labor Day.
  • Classes end June 16 for students.
  • There are 180 student days.
  • Winter break is Dec. 19-30.
  • Spring break is April 10-14.
  • Nov. 7 is set aside for parent-teacher conferences.
  • Nov. 8 is a student holiday and teacher workday/professional development day.
  • Jan. 30 is a student holiday and teacher workday.
  • Eight early-release days for students: Sept. 30, Nov. 4, Jan. 13, Feb. 7, March 31, April 28 and June 15-16. Seven of eight are on Fridays.
  • Schools closed Nov. 23-25 for Thanksgiving, Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Feb. 20 for Presidents Day and May 29 for Memorial Day.
