It was a day of respect and honor on Saturday, as nearly 1,000 wreaths were placed on gravestones at City Point National Cemetery in Hopewell. Residents from Enon and other Chesterfield neighborhoods were involved in the project.
Of the 971 wreaths laid, 436 were contributed by the efforts of the Oldies but Goodies Classic Cruizers Car Club, said Bob Jones, President of the Car Club.
“As a veteran myself, this project makes me feel great,” Bruce Vecchioni, Vice President of Oldies but Goodies Classic Cruizers said.
The Blue Knights, The American Legion and the Combat Warriors motorcycle clubs contributed to and assisted with the wreath laying.
“Freedom isn’t free,” said Jones, “This wreath laying is the least we can do for those who gave their all. We couldn’t do what we do without their sacrifices.”
