MEGA Mentors’, a group that teaches life skills, provides meaningful learning experiences and builds leadership skills through mentoring and tutoring in underrepresented Chesterfield County Public School students will host an arts benefit this Friday.
“MEGA Mentors is a vital partnership between caring adults and Chesterfield County students,” said Bermuda School Board Member Carrie Coyner. “Mentors provide our students with opportunities to learn soft skills improve academics and boost self esteem and character. It is a great organization to get involved with as you immediately see the impacts of your time and effort in the eyes of our children!”
MEGA will host its annual Fine Art Benefit and Sale on Friday, January 15, at 7 p.m. at the historic Hippodrome Theater at 528 N. 2nd Street in Richmond. Proceeds will be used to fuel MEGA’s programs and activities for the 2016-2017 schoolyear.
In conjunction with the Freedom Classic Festival weekend, this philanthropic event has become one of the best art shows on the east coast and will feature an exclusive showing of striking artwork, a high-tech silent auction and great people, music and food.
“For the past seven years, MEGA has worked hard to increase student success by providing positive experiences and role models to mentor, tutor and teach life and leadership skills,” explained Greg Cummings, president of MEGA Mentors. “Today, we support over 500 students in seven Chesterfield public schools. Your participation and tax-deductible contributions will enable us to continue our critical work in helping our students succeed.”
The event spotlights nationally renowned artists who are trailblazers in the areas of figurative, contemporary and abstract art consisting of originals, prints and sculptures. This year’s featured artist is René Dickerson, a self-taught figurative painter from California who now lives in Virginia. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase an array of fine art pieces and silent auction items that will directly benefit deserving students of Chesterfield County Public Schools.
