Falling Creek Middle has visit from acclaimed author Shelley Pearsall

Shelley Pearsall visited students at Falling Creek Middle School last week. Students have been reading two of her books: “All of the Above,” the third book that she wrote and “The Seventh Most Important Thing,” her most recent publication. Most of her books for juveniles are at least 250 pages.

A former teacher and museum historian, Pearsall is now a full-time author. Her first novel, “Trouble Don’t Last,” won the Scott O Dell Award for Historical Fiction

Students in the book are determined to let the world know that they are valuable and that their lives matter. “The Seventh Most Important Thing” is about a troubled boy who must face the consequences of his actions. Through his mandated community service hours, he begins to see the world through his victim’s. He is forever changed by his experience and grows up to be acknowledged for his efforts to save an incredible piece of artwork that he assists the victim create. The artwork is now on display in the Smithsonian.

Funding for the author visit was paid for by Communities in Schools of Chesterfield and 21st Century Learning Centers.
